What is Queen Califia’s Crypto Cafe?

Queen Califia’s Crypto Cafe is a mixture of two passions of mine, one a long standing love of coffee and the ambiance of cafes, and the other a more recent interest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

My journey down the crypto rabbit hole began while working a temporary job at an events rental venue ironically housed in the old Federal Reserve building in downtown San Francisco. Repurposed as a wedding, business and job fair halls and suites, the company also had an IT department near my cubicle where the workers were frequently chatting about cryptocurrencies on breaks and lunch. This was during the bull run of winter 2017, when Bitcoin and other crypto prices increased  multiple times over their previous highs. Crypto began to break into the popular consciousness, as evidenced by the increasing interest of myself and other non-computer department staff who listened intently to our in-house crypto evangelists.

Unfortunately for me and others the Bull market lasted only through January, before crashing into the Crypto Winter that would last several years. Nonetheless, I was intrigued and committed myself to learning about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

I was fortunate in that I started listening to a couple of podcasts with accurate and even handed approaches to Bitcoin and the Alt-coin markets. In an industry rife with schemes and scams, snake oil salesmen and digital rainmakers of all sorts, I came upon knowledgeable podcasters that offered well grounded perspectives, news and informed commentaries.

I recommend The Bad Crytpo Podcast and the Non Fungible Token (NFT) oriented Nifty show (Joel & Travis), The Gentlemen of Crypto (King Bless & Bitcoin Zay), and the Unchained (Laura Shin) podcasts.

My early foundation in solid information from these and others helped enormously when the bull market of 2021 brought yet again the digital rainmakers, perpetual optimists, and outright con men of the crypto space.

It was during the bull market of 2021 that i saw clearly the need for crypto education and analysis. Many people were entering the market with little to no knowledge of Bitcoin or the origins and functions of cryptocurrency.

Attracting consumers with good coffee and pastries, while providing a safe environment to ask questions and seek answers about these new, exciting, and uncharted markets seemed to be a plausible model to promote mass adoption of crypto.

Similar to a Christian Coffee shop or Anarchist Cafe, we seek to satisfy both the culinary needs, intellectual curiosities, and even metaphysical inquiries in regards to the Bitcoin and crypto space.

This is the origin of the idea for Queen Califia's Crypto Cafe & Gallery. While the financing for a brick and mortar shop remains a long term goal, I have decided to pursue the cafe, gallery, and gift shop as a virtual space in the meantime. Our goal is promote crypto education and awareness, while also selling crypto swag and apparel, and good coffee. When our Cafes do materialize IRL, first as pop-ups, then as a permanent store, this web site will promote and compliment the physical location, a synergistic relationship we believe is the future of coffee and crypto.
